I've never before written so many fics in a year that I could do one of these!

I stole the questions from [personal profile] nachodiablo, and just edited a bit and left one out.

Total word-count: 121 495 words

Did I expect to write more or less fic than I ended up writing? A year ago I didn’t expect to write at all. Having started in February, I soon realised I’d go on writing and finishing a short story about twice a month. I guess I then expected a bit fewer stories than 24.

What’s my own favourite story of the year? The Angel of Charity or This Awfully Long Month, because it’s so awfully long (for a short story) that I lived with the Remus in it for a full month (also while I was travelling and couldn’t write), and because it includes so many references to real times and places and events that I enjoyed doing a lot of research.

Did I take any writing risks this year? I combined perspectives in some ways I hadn’t tried before. Perhaps using an original house-elf character’s first-person POV in What's In His Heart was the strangest thing to do, particularly when those who accept everything JKR has said (about Remus’s family, I mean) wouldn’t expect such a character.

Do I have any fanfic goals for the new year? No actual goals. I hope I’ll continue to enjoy writing and that I’ll get to interact with some readers.

Best story of the year? Let’s say Palm-Shaped Leaves In New Shades because of the flashback structure and the use of a viewpoint character who’s practically an OC (young Amelia Bones).

Most popular story of the year? A Portrait of Best Friends, my official offering at R/S Small Gifts. Oh, also Another Anniversary at HP Halloween.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion? Precarious Treasure Just not noticed by the giftee?

Most fun story to write? To the Sensational Jaws, although Peter himself wasn’t having fun, and readers can probably have fun only if they know the film Jaws very well.

Story with the single sexiest moment? This Little Oyster, I suppose, and in any case it’s got more sexy moments than other fics (except the awfully long one).

Most sweet story? If Not Brothers, in which Remus and Sirius are so young and vulnerable and cautious with each other.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters? My True Disillusion, which revealed to me the reason for some of Remus’s behaviour for years afterwards.

Hardest story to write? More and More Exciting Muggle Music, because I decided to write, for once, about James and his Quidditch mates (used those Order members of whom only names and deaths are mentioned in canon) and then it was a challenge to tie that part together with what I wanted him to do with my usual main characters.

Overall thoughts? I feel these fics are different enough to have kept me challenged and excited – while my range is obviously very narrow compared with what multi-fandom, or just multi-OTP and multi-headcanon writers do. On the other hand, there’s something uniform about… the spirit (?) so that they could be read also as one story – even these 24 stories without the ones I’ve written before and those (I hope) I’ll still write.

The first challenge: introduce yourself in your own space. This turned out to be for the second challenge: In your own space, talk about your fannish history!

Thanks to [personal profile] pauraque I’ve understood what I want my introduction post to be like. Not all about my Harry Potter – or rather Remus Lupin – fanfic as such, or about me and my wider interests. Just about what fandom has meant to me. My history.

I was… well, around canon-era Remus’s age when I discovered the fandom. I’d started writing fiction when I was ten, shifted to poetry as a young adult, made the mistake of having a family – and that lead me to not only putting writing on hiatus, but to enjoying children’s books and fantasy worlds again. I’d missed Professor Lupin after PoA and started imagining an opening scene with him saving Harry from the Dursleys’ before I got to read OotP. Moved by OotP – and moved by and partly disappointed with Remus and Sirius’s roles in the book – I yearned to discuss it, googled for Harry Potter, and found my first fandom home.

Now when I’ve started connecting again, I try not to be too much focused on desperately desiring readers for my fic. I hope I’ll get a chance to offer something in a community.
