Recs: Three Short Snupin Fics

paulamcgWhile Remus is my forever protagonist (since OotP made me realise that Rowling wouldn’t develop Lupin in a satisfying way), I’ve often thought that Snape is the most fascinating character in canon. And while writing Wolfstar less and less subtly, I’ve read Snupin years ago, too. But recently some short fics have made me interested in Remus and Severus’s relationship in a new way.
Atop the Astronomy Tower by BunnyBopper
I loved the summary: Watching the snow from up on the astronomy tower is the one part of Christmas Severus enjoys. Trust Remus to ruin it. And soon I found myself convinced of and loving the pairing like never before. The author calls the fic short and sweet, but it’s not the fluffiest kind of Christmas fluff. In my view, both Severus and Remus are wonderfully in-character, and I enjoy and admire the way the author shows or rather only implies in Severus’s thoughts what’s behind the change in their back-and-forth.
A Quiet Thing by maraudersaffair (Explicit)
This Remus’s voice is completely different from those I’m used to reading in Wolfstar fics. This writer, too, convinces me that this can be the person behind what Harry sees of Lupin in canon – and that this Remus can have this relationship with Snape. There’s definitely no fluff. The writing style is excellently consistent and refreshing with its short sentences and simple vocabulary.

firewhiskeyfic and voted the funniest fic among the tipsy masterpieces in January round, and this is no indication of the excellent author’s SPAG and coherence ability when sober. In any case, here the author convinces me with truly unique, alternative vocabulary, as many of the misspellings lead to pronounceable words which also sometimes mean something almost fitting. Besides, the incoherence includes amazing meta, and the characterisations and interaction are… incredible!
As I’ve been proud to let you know, I, too, wrote Snupin in my Firewhiskey Fic, and after all this I think I’ll delve into the new exciting dimension in my Remus’s love life.

Date: 2020-02-17 12:53 pm (UTC)The great reveal...A lot of people shipped Severus and Sirius in a kind of enemies to lovers way, but when the extent of the bullying was revealed in OOTP the ship was dropped like a hot rock. It was just too severe I think for many people to feasibly ship them anymore, and suddenly there were no more Snape/Sirius fics being made. I didn't ship Snape with anyone else after that. Not until BunnyBopper started writing.
I've never written a HP fic, but I do have a little Snupin idea floating around in my head, so you never know, I might write it.

Date: 2020-02-17 03:32 pm (UTC)Thank you for the explanation. I thought it might have been that memory scene or the fight Snape and Sirius had when Harry came to talk about the Occlumency lessons. I entered the fandom only just after OotP came out, and didn’t become aware of the change in shipping.
At that point I was among those who found Remus/Sirius wonderfully tragic (while others shipping those two must have felt devastated). I never thought of pairing Snape with any Marauder or anyone else either. I did see a lot of Snupin around but didn’t read much of it, because back then I avoided anything rated higher than PG-13 (because I disliked sex, even in fiction), and I suppose there were fewer cute pre-slash or kissing fics about Severus and Remus than about Sirius and Remus. (Myself I preferred writing about Sirius-loving Remus at times when Sirius was absent.)
Most of my recent fics are set in the pre-Azkaban era, and I’ve written short, R-rated sex scenes but still not as the focus or conclusion of the fic. So far there are only floating ideas for Snupin scenes in my head, too.
