Rec Me a Fic of Yours!

Rec me any fic written by you (or by someone else who’s still around and who’d appreciate feedback, and I promise it’ll be only positive comments unless requested otherwise). I’ve claimed that nowadays I can read anything, but I’d prefer recs in the HP fandom and not very long fics, not longer than 5000 words, (and I have to add, as I’ve myself recced a 9000-word fic) at least not longer than 10 000 words.

The Boy Who Lived (rated Teen, 3500 words, contains some mild unpleasantness but nothing too graphic) didn't end up being my last Harry Potter story by a long shot, but at the time it was my post-canon "If I only write one more thing for this fandom, I want it to be this" story. It has some Snape/Dumbledore in it but is otherwise pretty canon-compliant and gen, and it's about legacies and the role of names and narrative in the wizarding world, which might be up your alley.

I'm still sick and don't quite have the bandwidth to post a full request to my f-list, but I'd love to get a rec from you. What story of yours do you think I'd enjoy the most, or which one are you proudest of?

Thank you for this wonderful rec! I’m so glad to read older fic – but I’d always like to know that the writer still cares for the story and is interested in feedback. And this one sounds fascinating. I’ve hardly been able to wait until the end of my working day. (I’ve still got my mild symptoms, but this morning I agreed with my boss that, instead of getting more sick leave, I’d work from home for a couple of days, even though it’s not recommended in my job.)

And thank you so much for asking for a self-rec! I’m thrilled, and it’s hard to decide… Compared with your rec (even before I’ve read the fic), my short stories now seem to me to be too humble, most of them with focus on personal issues. In a way I must be proudest of the novel, which naturally includes more world-building and deals more extensively with great themes like… (as kelly_chambliss named them some ten years ago) art, vision, dream, history, reality, perception and misperception, but of course I won’t rec that fic (because of its length and because the early chapters need rewriting for me to be proud of the text in them). As for what you’d enjoy… I’m afraid a lot of my fics are sad.

Sharing Breaths (Amelia Bones/Nymphadora Tonks, 9200 words)
When the second war’s starting, Amelia begins to live and believe in a new relationship.
I’d really love this fic to be received, and I think it’s one of my best (just as over the years I’ve usually thought about my most recent fics). Of course, Remus has sneaked into this fic, too, and there’s something about his attitude towards Dumbledore – which ties this one to another…

If He’s Got Any Strengths (2200 words)
Is Remus lucky – and is he strong enough – to encounter old grief and resentment as well as someone new on his first day of teaching at Hogwarts?

As you know, all my fics are connected, while each can be read separately. Only now does it occur to me that these two, too, could also be recced as a pair.
A Work of an Advanced Artist (3200 words)
In 2015, with another turning point ahead of him, Remus wishes Sirius could understand and share what his life has become.

What’s In His Heart (5200 words), which has an unusual viewpoint character and glimpses of some other original elements I developed in the novel.
In July after his sixth Hogwarts year, Remus brings Sirius to his childhood home.
