Recs: Works in Progress for a Change, and Some Femslash Fic and Art

A couple of months ago I got the urge to follow a chaptered fic while it's still in progress, so that after the posting of each chapter I could comment and have a chance for a small conversation with the writer – something I used to enjoy in my early fandom days. And now I've started reading two more fics like that.

Harry Potter and the Persistence of Vision (Teen) by marzipan77, whose idea is that after HBP a lot of the characters become different because Dumbledore's magic binds them no longer, and the writing is full of magnificence in describing magic and these powerful witches and wizards.

The first one of these two I found thanks to pauraque:

All Beasts Are Happy (Snape/Lupin, Mature) by rexluscus is an excellent, emotional and intriguing post-canon story, in which Severus and Remus are, obviously, alive but each is extremely wretched or at least satisfyingly troubled.

Learning to Fly (General) by renaissance, who writes an adorably nasty Hufflepuff Draco and depicts his developing relations with his House mates humorously and realistically.

The Femmefest masterlist is still anonymous. (There's something by me, too, and I wonder whether you'd recognise my style.) I haven't read very much in the fest, but I want to rec something.

In each of these two short fics I enjoyed various vivid scenes in different settings.
Work for Me (Hermione/Pansy, Explicit), and
when it’s not enough (Pansy/Ginny, Teen)

And I've found these pieces of fanart particularly gorgeous and evocative.

These recs look excellent; thanks! I'm just about to head over and read some more femmefest entries. I think I'm about one-third finished.

I'm glad you think so! In fact, I've almost given up trying to follow the first WiP, because the writer updates so frequently and there's so much of that magnificence.

It's also good to hear you've got the chance and the interest to read in that fest. (And perhaps to leave kudos and comments in case you find something that appeals to you.) Unlike in Femslash Minifest March/April (where there were only four works, though), not even close to half of the works are about characters of earlier generations than Harry's. Not that we couldn't enjoy reading and writing about young characters, too :)

Thanks so much for the recc! Updating is slow because of an ongoing eye problem, so staying off screens is vital right now. So annoying! Back to reading paper books for now. Which, okay, yes, I love it, but miss my fanfic! I'm bookmarking a few of these to check out later.

You're welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your eye problem, and I hope you'll enjoy the paper books and find whatever you read inspiring, too. On the other hand, I was just close to giving up hope ever catching up again, because you've updated so frequently. :)

Thank you for sharing these recommendations. I haven't been reading very much for quite some time but I have a couple of clearer days coming up, so I might try to do some more creative reading and writing things. It's always useful when you haven't been reading much for a while to have a nose at the recs people have written, so thank you for taking that time.
