What I Wrote in 2020

paulamcgIn 2020 I wrote and posted (or submitted to fests) 26 stories (if I count my series of eight 100-word Neville drabbles as one story), altogether 75 804 words of fanfic. It's almost exactly the same number of fics as in 2019 – when, starting in Febuary after a long hiatus, I wrote 24 fics but a lot more words, 121 495.
My stories have become shorter but also a bit more varied. I suppose the change is due to the fact that I've written exclusively for fests (the drabbles for a prompt community). It's been interesting to tackle different protagonists and eras, after in 2019 all my stories were centred around the Marauders, and all but two fics were set in the 1970s.
I still continue to write in my first-five-HP-books-consistent universe without contradicting my earlier fics, and even though each fic can stand on its own, too, they all add something to the wider story I started in 2003. That's why I've chosen to list the fics here in the order in which the events take place in my characters' lives. Three stories (the word counts of which are 8655 altogether) are missing here because they are still anonymous/not posted.
EDITED I've now added those three stories - set in 1987, 1993, and 1995 and 2000.
(1974 - 1987)
No Mere Mundane Deer (Poppy/Minerva, G, 841 words)
While Poppy's just thrilled to be taking her out, some more or less magical animals affect Minerva's mood.
Further Sound (Sirius/Remus, James/Lily, T, 5818 words)
In the March of his sixth year at Hogwarts, Sirius struggles to renew the intimate connection once started in soothing whispers. Remus has a very good reason not to hear him.
An Endearing Portrait (Sirius/Remus, T, 1207 words)
At the beginning of their seventh year at Hogwarts, Sirius fears that Remus’s mother and perhaps Remus himself, too, prefers someone else.
On Freezing Feet (Severus/Remus, M, 200 words)
Severus discovers his kink.
To Admit What Is Not More Illegal (Sirius/Remus, T, 3917 words)
On Valentine’s Day in their seventh year at Hogwarts, Sirius tries to offer what Remus needs, and starts figuring out if he's ashamed of something, and if he is, what it is.
Her Arm for Him to Hold (Alice/Frank, Remus/Sirius, James/Lily, T, 1500 words)
Alice wants to be an Auror and a wife, and takes the matters into her own hands.
The Rainbow Theme (Sirius/Remus, James/Lily, T, 7206 words)
In 1979 Sirius cares less about his birthday party than about moments of privacy with his Moony. His friends want to forget about the war for one night with help from multi-coloured drinks and quite as embarrassing decorations as well as silly disco hits. But the most popular song, too, isn't necessarily only about a relationship. It's about surviving, and it's about rebellion, and about leaving behind those who did you wrong, who made you fear any touch.

Under rising thunderclouds in late July 1980, Remus and Sirius take a different road towards home or freedom.
The Twelve Days of Christmas (Remus/Sirius, James/Lily, G, 418 words
This version of the traditional Christmas song was sung by Lily and the four Marauders probably in December 1980.
Festive Mood (Amelia/Molly, Molly/Arthur, G, 1090 words)
At Christmas 1987, Amelia appreciates feminine grace.

Is Remus lucky – and is he strong enough – to encounter old grief and resentment as well as someone new on his first day of teaching at Hogwarts?
The Darkness of This Shore (Remus/Severus, past Remus/Sirius, M, 4049 words)
In November 1993 Remus must face memories of young people who are no more, as well as some regrets and some issues he needs to sort out with a colleague.
The Wonders of the Fine Wintry Day (Remus/Sirius, Remus/Severus, Severus/Kingsley, Poppy/Pomona, Oliver/Percy, Poppy/Minerva, T, 5085 words)
In December 1993 Remus ends up witnessing and reliving more intimacy than he's expected when wishing to share some joys in visiting Hogsmeade.
The Residue of His Mind (Sirius/Remus, T, 2318 words)
With Buckbeak as his companion, Sirius continues to escape. Since all he's able to remember is painful, he finds it hard to understand what Remus wants from him.
His Breath Is Warm But (Remus/Severus, T, 660 words)
Remus hopes for a hotter end to this cool story.
Look for Laughter (Luna/Cho, G, 1168 words)
A week after the Yule Ball, Luna hopes she can comfort Cho.
Less Disappointed Than Relieved (Cho & Roger, Cho/Cedric, Roger/Fleur, G, 2480 words)
In her fifth year at Hogwarts – and five years later, too – Cho's only starting to learn what she enjoys doing with the people she's very fond of.
Sharing Breaths (Amelia Bones/Nymphadora Tonks, T, 9204 words)
When the second war’s starting, Amelia begins to live and believe in a new relationship.

At Halloween 1995 Sirius is not eager to welcome ghosts or any other visitors.

In January 2002 Cho takes pleasure in flying and dancing, and becomes aware of a deep need not long before she learns to see herself more clearly.
Bearing Fruit (Remus/Luna, M, 2278 words)
Luna comes to Remus again when the time is ripe.
A Work of an Advanced Artist (Remus/Sirius, other Remus pairings mentioned, G, 3169 words)
In 2015, with another turning point ahead of him, Remus wishes Sirius could understand and share what his life has become.

Date: 2021-01-01 03:30 pm (UTC)I sometimes wonder whether it requires a lot more creativity to come up with alternative lives for the characters. The world in which I write has become so real to me that I just can't stop having more of it from being revealed through my stories.
And I can relate. I usually want to focus on writing. Besides, I'm a slow reader, and it seems to me that other people write faster than I can read. :)

I have recently started reading the Drarropoly and 25 Days of Drarry stories though, and I'm hoping to get to the 'normal' stories after that. But yeah, that could take a few months. But we'll get there!
