To Be a Princess
"Mums, look at me! I'm taller than you."
Startled at their little son's voice ringing from above, Ginny lifts her head from where she's rested it in Luna's lap. She's been almost lulled to sleep in the dappled shade of the blossoming branches up in their treehouse. But now – where's her wand? Or her broom?
Luna's already dropped the flowers she's been tying into a wreath, and aimed her wand at Sunny. "You've let the magic run rampant again. Ready now? I'm going to levitate you back down."
"Don't scold my little brother!" That's Amy's precocious voice, sounding from no lower. "He can't help it. He's only five. And I can save him. Now, climb onto my broom... like that!"
While Luna only smiles, watching with her wand poised so as to make sure the children are safe, Ginny can't help sighing. "Why can't you two just sit on the lawn wearing flower crowns!"
"I don't want to... pick any flowers," Amy says when landing on the treehouse floor. "I want them to grow. And it's boring to be a princess."
"We all want everything to grow. That's why Mum Luna's using enchanted paper flowers for..."
"Crown! I want a crown," Sunny cuts in, "and I'm a princess, and a princess can fly."
Luna now completes a crown and places it on their son's curls. "Here you are, princess Sunny!"
Ginny straddles her broom and beckons for him to sit in front of her. "And you can take me flying."
