Fests: Some Festive Fun for All of Us

The holiday fests are here. As Sirius seems to be able to enjoy the ride, I trust each of us will find a way to do it, too. :)




Today is the last day for prompting at Mini Fest. The signing up is open and all the prompts from previous years, too, are available, and the deadline is the 20th of December.

Claiming (here) at hprarepairfest closes today, and I should finally make up my mind and write more than a few sentences based on one of the prompts. The deadline is in five days, after all! There are a lot of prompts still available, and unless you are an awfully slow writer like me, it can be fun for you to grab one now.

You won't be surprised to hear that I find all those fests (like adventdrabbles) with daily prompts overwhelming. But perhaps I'll ask for prompts at Festive Fun Fest at rarepair_shorts. Check out the sticky post in the community and see what a low-pressure fest that one is!

I am... heading for a time of quiet (to quote Paul Simon in Quiet) and looking forward to the party at hoggywartyxmas (and to the posting at snapecase, but that's been rescheduled to start only on the 9th of January). Not thinking about fics for next year's fests yet (not even about a spooky Renus/Sirius thing that I should come up with for Fireside Tales by the end of January).

I'd like to remind you all of the fabulous Salt and Pepper Fest at hp_goldenage. The deadline is only the 15th of February. At Remus Lupin Fest the deadline is even later, but the signing up closes on the 13th of December, and I've hurried to claim a prompt because there's no self-prompt option.

I'm so tempted by many of these fests, but I find myself (temporarily, I hope) rather written-out after Snapecase and Hoggywartyxmas, as fun as they were to do. I did get an assignment for the Rare Pair shorts fest, but it can be very short indeed.

One of these days I really want to write for HP Goldenage, though this year probably won't be the one. I have a conference paper that I have to work on after the holidays.

I may give Mini-Fest a go, though; it's always fun, and I have a soft spot for it because it was one of the very first fests I wrote for back in 2009.

Thank you for commenting and telling me how you feel about these fests! I, too, hope that any written-out feeling – yours as well as mine – is temporary.

Just like a year ago, I wonder if and how frequently I'll take part in fests after the holiday season. In 2021 I must have written clearly less than in 2020. My fics have got shorter, and while I've still signed up for almost every event I've found suitable for my fic writing, and I've submitted something to each, some fests from last year have not taken place this year (Creature Fest, Ace Fest, Drizzle Fest). Last year I failed to sign up for hprarepairfest, and I've hoped I'll finally make it – in a few hours now :).

Thanks to what you say about these two fests, I feel encouraged to get an assignment for the Festive Fun Fest, and to sign up for Mini Fest – as I enjoyed that little fest both last year and back in 2009. <3

Ah! This looks exhausting! You are utterly mad, disciplined, and prodigiously prolific :)

I am not signing up for anything new, but I might write treats for the pinch-hitters at Yuletide I have a few hours here and there. I've to reserve my energies to write comments for snapecase and hoggywarty, although I might prioritise Hoggywarty first and then do the snapecase comments in February.

Thank you again! (I guess...) But I doubt I'm all of those three things. :) I did sign up for HP Rare Pair Fest, but I asked for an extension also because beta is required. Now since I can work on that fic until the 19th, I don't think I can write something for Mini Fest by the 20th. And I haven't received prompts for Festive Fun yet. I'm actually looking forward to spending more time on writing comments. But on such days when I'm not interested in any fic in progress, I miss some joy that only self-indulgence can give me. <3 I hope you will both enjoy writing Yuletide treats and have a lot of energy left for the party at Hogwarts!
